When make a decision for veneers and crowns

1. When to choose veneers?

Veneers can be used to:

  • widen your smile
  • enlarge or lengthen your teeth
  • close gaps between your teeth
  • correct any discolouration of your teeth
  • restore your teeth to their natural size and shape after excessive wear or tooth grinding (you will see an immediate rejuvenating effect)
  • correct crooked or gappy teeth, avoiding the long-term orthodontic therapy

2. When to choose crowns?

Indications for crowns:

  • the tooth might have become weakened due to an extremely big filling
  • you want to improve your tooth's appearance because you have stained fillings
  • you have undergone a root canal therapy that requires a crown to shield it
  • you have had your tooth damaged in an accident
  • tooth might support a denture or bridge in place.

3. When to choose a veneer or a crown?

Porcelain veneers are thin porcelain laminates that are cemented to the face surface of the teeth. They are used to resolve aesthetic problems and for smile makeovers (see indications for veneers). If the tooth has a huge decay or needs to be reinforced due to previous root canal treatment and gum disease therapy, crowns are the better and safer choice. They rebuild aesthetics, strengthen the teeth, close widely opened interdental spaces after periodontal treatment, and also reinforce the impaired tooth.
We often use a combination of veneers and crowns in the same jaw.(Have a look at GALLERY:2)
